. . . from the Manager's Desk

By Barry Holt

WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS

In my office I have two world globes. One is medium sized and sits on my credenza, made of different kinds of gem stones. The other globe is small and mounted to a cross pen and clock desk set.
I hardly ever take notice of them because they are so familiar to me. If one was missing I’m sure I would notice but for the most part they are just sitting there only touched each week by the person who cleans my office.

Today was different. When I came to work today President Gerald Ford had just been laid to rest, Saddam Hussein had been executed and politicians, as usual, were hard at work trying to destroy each other in order to win elections while young men and women were still dying in Iraq.

The most quoted phrase these days seems to be “What is the world coming to?” I sat at my desk pondering this question, slowly turning a globe, and trying to find a place where people were actually happy and not in a war with someone. I was hard pressed to find one. Iraq, Iran and Korea are just the tip of the iceberg. Is it possible that we could truly be close to a world war?

I don’t claim to have special insight into world affairs and I am certainly not able to see the future. As a Christian and avid student of the Bible, however, I am interested in Biblical prophecy and have great interest in what God’s word has to say on the subject of things to come and how Christians should prepare themselves.

Bible prophecy is the current interest of many right now. To give adequate exploration would take much more space than the limitations this newsletter allows. I instead encourage you to begin an in-depth study of your own. We need to be aware not afraid and we need to be expecting and not surprised as the prophecies of the Bible unfold.
