History

WWEV began broadcasting on December 8, 1981. In the early days of ministry the radio station was totally automated. The music and announcers were taped. The tapes were then shuttled back and forth to the transmitter site on Sawnee Mountain in Cumming. We didn't actually have a radio "station." At the time it was a one room portable building at the base of the tower on top of the mountain. When the weather was bad it was a treacherous journey to change the tapes.

The music was quite different then. Most of the music could be classified as inspirational. It included such artists as Doug Oldham, George Beverly Shea, The Continental Singers and the Haven of Rest Quartet. The format was changed to all contemporary in 1985 when Barry Holt became the General Manager.

The WWEV family is located in our new facility at 1705 Sawnee Drive. The Lord is blessing us with a fresh anointing each day to minister to the North Georgia and Metro Atlanta area.

WWEV is governed by an uncompensated Board of Directors, providing leadership and accountability for the radio ministry of FM 91.5.

Philosophy

We live in a day when once-a-week fellowship with fellow Christians is simply insufficient to sustain us. We need to be nurtured and exhorted daily. We need to hear the good news of Jesus often.

The local Church should be the primary point of Christian spiritual growth, but with increased demand it's hard for the Church to do it alone. Christians turn to private study, the family altar, and Christian radio as an added source of inspiration, not as an alternative to the Church, but rather as an additional aid to the sustained Christian walk.

Christian Radio is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in this area on FM 91.5 and can be heard whenever and wherever it is convenient. To be an arm of the Church has always been our goal; to enhance it, not compete with it.

The first priority of most any ministry is winning the lost and discipling the saved. Radio is a wonderful impetus for both. Providing quality teaching programs and Word-filled music builds up the body of Christ so that it may grow and be nurtured thereby. Knowing that His Word will not return void and knowing that it will accomplish its intended purpose provides us with the confidence that the lost can be won and the saved exhorted. The result will be a stronger, better-informed Christian who will make a better church member and a happier, more fulfilled individual.

Let's work together, using our gifts and talents to further the cause of Christ. The Time is short, the task great, and the laborers few, but together we can make a difference.

Reception Tips

If you live on the fringe of our listening area or if you would just like a stronger signal, the following tips will help:

1. If you listen with a portable or battery operated radio and have difficulty picking up the station, try placing your radio near a window. If you still have problems, place the radio near a window on the WWEV side of your home.

2. The best reception is achieved by utilizing an external or outside antenna. If your system has FM antenna terminals located on the rear of the receiver, you are missing a tremendous improvement in reception if you aren't using them. There are several external antennas available, the best being an outside roof mount. Most outside TV antennas are also FM receiver antennas and can be used by simply purchasing a TV splitter at your local electronics or TV dealer (less than $10). If your antenna in not pointed in our direction, you will still get better reception than you would without it. However, if you turn your antenna in our direction you can get remarkable results.

3. If you want even stronger reception, a TV/FM signal booster can be purchased (around $50) which will increase the gain of all received signals and can be installed with basic tools. This booster is used in conjunction with an outside antenna.

4. There are two other types of external antennas available. One is a basic rabbit ear type (around $40) or the inexpensive T type 300 ohm dipole antenna which can be purchased for around $5.

5. In your car, always be sure your local/distance switch is in the distance mode when reception is poor. If your antenna length is adjustable, the proper length of the antenna should be 30 ½ inches. Also, there is an FM antenna booster available for your car for about $20.

We hope these tips are helpful . . .

Purpose

Ministering to the needs of today's family is the purpose behind the broadcast ministry of WWEV. The Christian family faces most of the same problems as any other family in America. The difference is not in the problems but rather in the solutions.

WWEV is a Biblically based radio ministry that believes the answers for today's problems are found in the Word and in the person Jesus Christ.

The music aired on this station is selected for its message content first. If the message in the song is grey and unclear we simply refuse to waste God's valuable air time playing it.

Music makes up most of our 24-hour day, featuring a contemporary style format that appeals largely to the young and middle-aged adult, with special emphasis on youth Saturday night.

A couple of hours each day is set aside for teaching and preaching the Word, featuring the marvelous speakers listed in the Program Guide.

Ministry means serving, and as we have opportunity to serve you we shall endeavor to serve Christ as well, ". . . for when you have done it unto these, you have done it unto me," says the Lord.

Funding

WWEV is a nonprofit 501(C)3 ministry. Unlike other nonprofit radio stations we receive no support from the Federal Government. Each dollar comes from individuals who believe in the cause of Christ and in the efforts of WWEV's mission to fulfill that cause.

One half of the station's support is raised during Sharathons. During these times listeners respond with pledges of support.

The other half of our support comes in the form of Business and Ministry Underwriting. Both Businesses and Nonprofit Ministries support the programming on FM 91.5 and are acknowledged on the air in the form of 30-second announcements. The FCC regulates the content of Business acknowledgments restricting the use of comparative, qualitative and call to action statements.

The announcement must be value neutral but may include:

1. The Business name

2. Address

3. Telephone number

4. A brief description of the product or service.

For Ministry Underwriting there are no such restrictions; however, station policy sets certain standards for quality and content of these acknowledgments.

Business Underwriting not only helps WWEV financially, but also helps the Underwriter by identifying them with the Christian community. And it makes our listeners aware of their products, services, and location. Churches use Underwriting to inform the public of special events, service times, and church location. Some businesses underwrite in the name of their church or mention their Church in the business announcement.

Underwriting has experientially been mutually beneficial.

Underwriting and individual donations are both tax deductible.
