From time to time I have an opportunity to visit various churches in the area. I enjoy sharing in the worship services of the many denominations that make up our listening family. Being with you in service gives me insight into how WWEV as an outreach of the local body can better serve the "Church" at large. I have visited with many of you in Baptist, Methodist, Church of God, Assembly of God and Independent Churches. I felt welcome and love in each one. In all, God was worshipped, praised and glorified. His Word was proclaimed and Jesus Christ was hailed as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Worship is such an integral part of what going to church is all about. Above all, God desires our praise. He wants us to worship Him. He draws closer to us as we draw closer to Him. If you ask God what He really desires from you, it is your praise, worship, love and adoration. More than your tithe, more than your time, more than your talents, more than your ministry; He wants you to WORSHIP Him. He wants you to talk to Him, commune with Him, live for Him and walk with Him. He wants you to regard Him higher than yourself, your spouse, your children, your job and yes even your church. The church building is where we gather to do what we should be doing by ourselves all the time; worshipping God.
The Word says, "Bring the sacrifice
of praise into the house of the Lord." Notice the work "bring."
We bring it with us. It isn't something we do at church, it is
something we do before, after and during church. God desires that
praise be continually on our lips. Prayer without ceasing means
continual communication with our creator.
It's like a best friend that goes with you everywhere. He wouldn't
be your best friend if you made Him just sit near by but never
talked to Him. He wants to know all about you. He wants to know
your dreams and the desires of your heart, as well as your cares
and problems. He already knows what your needs are and promises
to provide them if you keep His commandments, which are; to "Love
the Lord with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself."
Once again He emphasizes that He desires our love above all else.
Have you worshipped Him today? Or better yet, are you worshipping Him right now? Sometimes just whispering His name can bring peace and comfort. He is waiting and longing to be near you. He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.
"What a friend we have in Jesus....."
