How many times in your life have you repeated the phrase I Doubt It when an apparently unbelievable statement is made or you are being forced to swallow a questionable idea? You probably didnt keep count but if you are like most the number is high.
We are a generation of doubters. Life has taught us to believe half of what we see and none of what we hear. We are taught that a used car is probably an abused car and to never pay the asking price. Faith in a handshake and a mans word is no longer an acceptable business practice. And you should never, ever pay in advance.
Trust is difficult to find these days and integrity is just another word left unapplied in todays doubting world. Trust and Obey for theres no other way. To be happy in Jesus is to Trust and Obey. The words of this great Hymn are still sung today in Churches of all denominations. The Bible teaches that we must have Faith to please God. There is no other way to be Happy without Trusting in Jesus and Obeying His Word.
Since we have learned the difficulty of Trusting anyone, Faith and Trust are in short supply. The Bible says we must Believe and not Doubt, but here again we often fall short. As a younger man I used to play a game called Trust. A person would stand facing away from two rows of their friends and was supposed to close their eyes and cross their arms and free fall backwards into the arms of trusted friends. I dont remember ever seeing anyone being allowed to fall. I am not sure I could play that game today. Each member of my Catch Team would have to undergo a background check and take a lie detector test first.
This is, however, the kind
of trust and faith we need to have in our Savior. We must believe
and not doubt. We must have faith. We must allow ourselves to
fall blindly into the arms of our dearest friend knowing that
He will not let us fall. The hardest thing to do is to let go.
The idea of giving our lives, our families, our finances and our
future over to someone on the basis of trust and blind faith may
be difficult but the rewards are without measure.
