. . . from the Manager's Desk

The Living Word

I have a hard time justifying using scripture or the study, preaching or reading of it to gain wealth, which is why I don't use it for that purpose during Sharathon. One of my rules regarding underwriter announcements for instance is that scripture must not be used that draws a connection to a product or service. For instance, I wouldn't allow a hotel to use "come all who are weary and I will give you rest. Or an eye doctor to use "without a vision people perish." I believe that scripture is sacred and should be respected and loved the way we love Christ.

God's Word is Alive. Scripture reveals that God's Word is a living breathing expression of God. John 1:1 says, "…and the Word was God."

I have never been able to throw a Bible away regardless of how old or tattered it may become. Sometimes I like to look through my older Bibles to see what notes I may have made or which scriptures I underlined or highlighted. It lets me see where I was in my Christian walk and what problems I may have been facing at the time. It is almost as revealing as a diary or journal.

Often, it brings to mind a thought or an idea that I had forgotten and launches a fresh study into the Word.

When you study the Word, study it in an attitude that is receptive to more than just words on the page. Much of what the Holy Spirit will reveal will be to your spirit man. Remember that we are admonished to worship, pray, and sing in the spirit so why not listen in the spirit to what the Lord may reveal to you through His Word.

Sometimes I scarcely read more than a few verses when the Holy Spirit begins to pour Himself into my heart. It can be overwhelming. It is truly an overflowing that is wonderful and exciting full of joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Earlier I mentioned that I don't like to use scripture as leverage to get calls during Sharathon. The reason we have Sharathon is to raise the operating expenses of a radio station. This radio station has been dedicated and set apart for the ministry of God's Word to God's people. He knows what our needs are and I believe that God's people who listen to His voice will respond without us having to shame, manipulate, or bludgeon them with the Bible.

I would rather use the Word to encourage the discouraged. Give direction to the lost; and give hope to the hopeless.
