Many look for a sign that will prove that God is real; a blinding light that will knock them off their horse like Paul; or a burning bush, and Ten Commandments burned into stone like Moses. Some will not believe unless, like Thomas, they can see and touch the nail prints in the hands of Jesus. If they get their sign and are finally convinced of the reality of Christ, do you think that others will believe them without seeking a sign of their own? In reality Jesus is evident everywhere but many are just to blind to see Him and the miraculous wonders He performs.
In the 12th Chapter of Matthew Jesus is found , as is often the case, healing the sick and casting out demons. In the midst of incredible miracles the Scribes and Pharisees ask Jesus to show them a sign. How do you spell duhh? The Bible is entirely too dignified at times. What Jesus answered in the scriptures was, An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign... I, in my not so dignified mind, imagine Jesus walking up to one of them and pecking on their forehead like someone knocking on a door and saying, ...hello, anybody in there... A great song of my generation says, there is none so blind as he who will not see. The Scribes and Pharisees of the day refused to acknowledge what anyone with minimal intelligence could see clearly. Jesus was going about the countryside healing the sick and performing all kinds of miracles, in clear view of anyone who would take the time to see, and still many would not believe.
In His own hometown among his family and lifelong friends He could not convince them that He was the Christ, the son of God, the Messiah, even though they too had no doubt seen the miracles and heard of the great things He had done. He received no honor from His own people, no praise, no worship, hardly a kind word even though undeniable signs of His power and deity were everywhere.
As
you think about the Messiah this Christmas and hear the story
of Jesuss birth again, open your spiritual and physical
eyes and see Him anew. See all the wonderful things only He could
have done all around you. Remember the prayers He answered when
you were sure there was no other way. See the families He has
mended that could have never survived. Look into the face of a
child and see the very existence of Christ. Ask Jesus to give
you a fresh anointing, and to fill you to overflowing with His
spirit. Find time to listen to His voice as He speaks to your
heart. Look for Him in His Word which lives and breathes and gives
life. And attend your home church often, you will find Him wherever
two or three are gathered in His name. The Church isnt hard
to find, out in the front yard Im sure they have a sign.
. . . and thou shall call his name Jesus
